There's a Reason All the It Girls Love This Maternity Line

I’ve heard it from pregnant friends a million times: “There are no good maternity clothes.” Entrepreneur and model Nicole Trunfio felt the same way, and on her third pregnancy, she decided to do something about it. Enter: Bumpsuit. The line offers a range of bodysuits made of super stretchy, super thick fabric. They work perfectly at 9 months, postpartum, and, even if you’re neither pregnant nor postpartum, as some influencers have demonstrated. As an editor, I understand the Bumpsuit appeal immediately: they streamline your dressing options (nothing fussy here), are chic enough to feel polished, but also decidedly comfortable. Apparently the it girl crowd feels the samethe brand has been spotted on everyone from Shanina Shaik to Elsa Hosk and Hannah Bronfman. Today, the line is expanding to include separates, including what Trunfio calls, “the best maternity leggings on the market." We predict you’re going to be seeing a lot more of the brand, so we took the opportunity to chat with Trunfio on all things Bumpsuit including what’s next for the promising new brand.

What inspired you to start Bumpsuit?

I was inspired by my need for something effortless and comfortable that I could trust to make me feel good and look good every day. I was inspired also by the lack of comfortable and chic maternity garments available. I never found anything that suited my style. Another inspiring factor was the thought of spending money on maternity clothes that I wouldn’t be caught dead in after. There was just nothing out there where I searched during my previous pregnancies that felt comfortable and effortless.

Why do you think Bumpsuit has been so popular already?

You can rely on Bumpsuit to wear as an everyday layer, for any occasion, from a school run to a date night. They're double lined for extra support and coverage, and have custom fabric that feels like butter. You can wear it through all stages of pregnancy, and it’s so stretchy, but also snaps back so you can wear it postpartum and beyond, as a basic layer in your wardrobe. I see myself wearing Bumpsuit into my late '60s. In fact, I have emptied out most of my closet now and just keep things that I can layer over my Bumpsuits. It keeps dressing everything super straight forward, which I value, and I know I will always look chic, feel comfortable, and make a good impression

What are your favorite ways to style the Bumpsuit?

With the turtle neck styles, “The Penelope” or “The Stevie,” I love a good suede knee-high boot, a soft coat, a pair of oversized shades. and a nice bag. It makes me feel like a '60s-era, jet-setter bombshell. With “The Cindy,” I love a fresh white sneaker, a cross-body bag, and an oversized sweater or jacket tied around the waist with a bucket hat.

Which product from your Bumpsuit brand has sold out the fastest?

It is definitely neck-in-neck with “The Kate” and “The Support Waist Trainer.” The waist trainer is a MUST; it’s seriously the best thing on the market for so many reasons. It’s the best for postpartum support, and is modeled on the postpartum Ayurvedic rituals. It’s also amazing to use as shape-wear under clothes, if you just want skeletal and core support throughout the day or even if you have a desk job and need back support. We have had customers buy it for so many reasons and have sold out five times already! It’s incredible to be able to offer a product that can be of value and improve someone’s quality of life day to day. The support waist trainer really makes you feel like you can do it all. It’s my super power.

What's in store next for Bumpsuit?

We are launching ten new styles, including separates. We have developed what we think is the best maternity legging on the market. I can’t wait to offer it. It’s a game changer! We also have the “Comfy Bra” coming, which is.... that’s right, the comfiest bra on the market. I'm driven to offer products that can make people feel better each day. As soon as I put on “The Support Bodysuit,” which we just launched, I automatically feel supported and strong. It just feels so good to have products like this. I want to empower our customers and give them items that uplift them and support their core being, inside and out!
