Found Out You Need Glasses? See Styles Our Editors Love

About a year ago, my outlook on life started to get a little, well, blurry. Literally. I’d rub my eyes, I’d try squinting… Unfortunately, the only thing that helped was realizing it was finally time to get that eye exam. Cut to me booking it to LensCrafters for an eye exam (and to begin my hunt for a chic pair of frames).

If you’re in the same boat, you know that finding the perfect pair can feel like the equivalent of finding the perfect pair of jeans. It takes serious trial and error, and at the end of it all, you’re lucky if you try on one style you can see yourself pulling the trigger on—plus a massive pile of rejects strewn all over the place.

Not so at LensCrafters, however. The retailer has a slew of styles from premium brands to choose from, which made things way easier for this picky, picky editor. And to help you narrow down your search for the right frames, here are my favorite styles I found myself gravitating toward. Yes, this is a definite hint to my husband.)

Cat Eye

Cat-eye frames fit my heart-shaped face best, which is great, given their versatility and timeless appeal. I like to think of them as the LBD of eyeglasses—you can never really go wrong with a pair. From thick black frames to thinner metal styles, these are my favorites of the moment…

Round

If you can pull off round frames, you earn bonus cool points in my book (and probably spend a ton of time in Silver Lake). I’ve spotted this style on countless street style stars, and it's easily the edgiest pick of the bunch.

Rimless and/or Thin Rim

Want to feel like Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink? Go for a rimless or thin-rimmed pair for an ’80s-inspired vibe. I’m really into these fashion-forward styles that work on just about every face shape. PS, these gold aviators are perfect for the Miami Vice enthusiasts among us (myself included).

Square

Like their cat-eye counterparts, square frames are a classic pick that’s stood the test of time. If square frames looked good on my face shape, I’d push my wardrobe boundaries by opting for a cool Sally Jessy Raphael–esque pair. Sadly (for me), these work best on rounder face shapes.

Now that you have an idea of what style you like, book your Clarifye eye-exam appointment before the year is over (better get the most out of your insurance!)…
