My Style Is Admittedly Safe, But I Want to Try These 3 New Trends
I'm the first to admit that while I lust after dreamy couture runway shows, edgy fashion photo shoots, and the new It-girl looks on Instagram, my style is pretty boring. While we could call it classic or minimalist if we're being generous, my go-to look consists of jeans, a solid top, and booties 360/365 days a year (maybe swapping in a graphic tee if I'm feeling crazy).
In an effort to expand my mind and my wardrobe this season I'm challenging myself to toss practicality to the wind and try a few new "daring" trends that feel a bit extreme for me but on-trend for the season. Scroll to see which looks I'm taking on and what I'm shopping to achieve them.
Trend # 1: Feathers
I'm starting slow here, but for me, slight embellishment is daring, even if it's atop a classic LBD. Feather detailing has been popping up all over the runway on trench coats, shoes, and bags, and I'm intrigued since it's a simple way to add subtle texture to an outfit that may be otherwise basic.
Trend # 2: Neon
Opting for a trending color feels like an obvious transition for me because, after all, it falls into my minimalistic category of no fussy prints or messy logos. Granted, these hues are not for the faint of heart and definitely do not replace my beloved white and black T-shirts, but I'm still excited to don a slime green skirt or a bright yellow bag, just to mix it up.
Trend # 3: Tourist Sandals
Have I shocked you yet? I'm uncharacteristically excited for the return of the dreaded Tevas. While they're neither timeless nor particularly pretty to look at, they feel like the summer version of the "dad" sneaker, which I also loved, but was too scared to try. I'll be pairing this with midi skirts, shorts, bathing suits, and of course, my good ol jeans and T-shirt.
