3 Outfit Combinations You Can Transition From Day to Night

With each new season comes new wardrobe essentials—and sadly that means saying goodbye (for now) to some of our warm-weather favorites in the not-so-distant future. Namely, off-the-shoulder blouses, breezy minidresses, and leather slides—all the pieces that have gotten us through the Instagram-worthy vacations and rooftop happy hours summer entails. Just thinking about banishing these favorite warm-weather pieces to the back of our closets has us sweating, so it’s a good thing F/W 17’s offering up so many trends we’re looking forward to trying out.

To get a jump on fall dressing, we asked model and fashion blogger Rocky Barnes to style three chic outfits from her capsule collection with one of our favorite affordable retailers, UNIQLO. The result: a mix of bohemian and urban pieces influenced by her enviable bicoastal lifestyle that transition easily from desk to drinks (essential as ever this time of year). Ready for some seriously cool a.m.-to-p.m. picks? See all of her looks and how she’ll be styling them for the upcoming season below.

High-Waist Midi Skirt

Before you shift your midi skirts to the back of your closet, consider Rocky’s idea for wearing the super-flattering, feminine style for fall. She looks equal parts chic and cozy with an added cashmere sweater and tall scrunchy boots—another ’80s-inspired trend we’re predicting will be everywhere this coming season.

This look is perfect for daytime, but how do you transition it into the evening? “[Add] a cute statement necklace and a clutch, and you’re ready for a night out!” she shares. With an accessory change that easy, we’re predicting this pairing will make frequent appearances in our fall wardrobes.

Flared Denim

Flared denim certainly seems to be fall’s answer to summer’s distressed boyfriend jeans. They’re ideal for a casual weekend outfit when paired with a flannel and moto style jacket, as Rocky demonstrates.

However, we’d argue that with a dressier top, they’re office-appropriate, too. The choice is yours, but the blogger has one piece of advice for you either way: “It’s important to wear this look with a tucked-in shirt to balance out the wide leg.”

Casual Pantsuit

Born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California, Rocky tells us she’s a beach girl at heart and calls her personal style “boholuxe”—but that doesn’t mean she can’t rock a pantsuit. In fact, the SoCal native considers it a classic look and one every girl should have on hand for the office (and beyond).

The jogger-style fit of the pants calls for a fun pair of heels in a professional setting, but Rocky has different styling tips for after-work drinks: Swap the white shirt for a tighter bodysuit, slick back your hair, and add a bright lip.
