Glasses are expensive, plain and simple, so taking good care of them is very important. Everything, from how you carry them in your bag (always put them in their case) to how you clean them, can cause scratches on the lenses if not done the correct way. That's why we're focusing in on a step-by-step guide on exactly how to clean glasses without scratching them. The good news? It's easier than you might initially think and only requires a few tools. Follow these steps, and you'll have crystal-clear vision (and scratch-free lenses) for a long time. Ahead, five easy steps to cleaning your glasses.

1. Rinse glasses.

The first step is to rinse your glasses under lukewarm water (avoid using hot water). This initial rinse will wash off dust and debris that could possibly scratch your lenses when you are cleaning them.

2. Apply a small drop of dishwashing liquid.

After rinsing, the next step is to apply a small drop of lotion-free dishwashing liquid on each lens, according to All About Vision. Make sure to only use a very small amount, as dishwashing liquid is very concentrated.

3. Gently rub the lenses.

After applying the dishwashing liquid onto the lenses, gently rub it in, making sure to clean every part of the frame—i.e., the nose pads, ends, etc.

4. Rinse again.

Make sure to rinse off all the dishwashing liquid under lukewarm water. This is important to avoid smearing when you are drying the glasses.

5. Dry with a clean, lint-free towel.

After shaking off excess water, it's time to dry the glasses using a clean (this is super important) cotton towel or microfiber cloth, preferably one you use to for fine glassware.
