The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange is a global project showcasing artisan fashion. And tonight, it kicks off with a press conference in London. Featuring an array of designers from the Commonwealth’s 52 countries, the project aims to develop new networks, while simultaneously underscoring a focus on sustainability within the high-fashion sphere.
Demand for handmade products has been on the rise as of late. With smaller, luxury brands popping up everyday, and more brands turning to self-production, it's clear that customer’s interests are changing; which means it’s time for the industry as a whole to reassess its long term plans and goals—beginning with designers.
Representing Australia, designer Kit Willow will be in attendance at the event with her eponymous label, KITX. In addition to the press conference tonight, Willow will attend a reception at Buckingham Palace during London Fashion Week, before the exhibition opens to the public at the Australia House in London on February 21.
Since launching, KITX has aimed for transparency regarding the manufacturing of its pieces, choosing to only work with contractors "who are committed to quality and human decency within their operations." In addition, KITX makes a conscious promise, striving to exemplify "honesty and integrity" within the changing fashion industry.
