So, Elle Fanning, Does the Runway Have a Better View Than the Front Row?

Welcome to Runway Matters, where we're delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the F/W 18 shows.

Miuccia Prada has a knack for making me nostalgic for eras I never knew. Okay, so I missed the '50s and the '80s (just barely), but when I watched her runway show for Miu Miu's F/W 18 collection, I got a strange inkling that bouffants and drop-shoulder jackets are still cool, despite the fact that I've never had those thoughts before. The show reminded me once again that Miuccia always has fun with fashion, and that the rest of us should too. Sure, none of us need lavish satin and crystal-embellished heels, but thanks to her we want them anyway.

Also worth noting this season is the fact that longtime brand muse Elle Fanning finally made her runway debut. The 19-year-old has starred in campaigns going all the way back to 2014, but this marks the start of a new era for Fanning.

Below, find Fanning's two runway looks along with a handful of details I found particularly inspiring this season. As always, Miu Miu is guaranteed to put you in a good mood, so why not check it out?

If Elle Fanning is Wearing It, We're Sold

Actress Elle Fanning has been a long-time fan of the brand, but she took things to the next level, opening the show in Paris.

All Shoes Look Better With a Fuzzy Sock

From glittery pumps to fun flats, models shoes were styled with cozy socks. The pristine scrunched styles adding a ladylike twist that also makes wearing skimpier shoes doable for winter weather.

Put a Scarf (Or Two) On It

During winter, a scarf is a de facto accessory, but the runway offered a new take on the style, with micro-sized scarves draped over shoulders, buttoned neck wraps, and silk scarves all styled together.

Make Denim Your Base Layer

We've seen denim revitalized both on and off the runway this season, and one look I love in particular is using denim jackets and tops as a buttoned-up base layer. Adding a sweater or jacket on top feels especially fresh right now.

Go For Oversize

The '80s continue to make a return on the runway, and one look at these oversize drop-shoulder jackets will show you exactly why I mean. Leather jackets were a big move away from the classic moto jackets we've seen over the past few seasons.
