8 Non-Cliché Outfits Our Editors Are Wearing to NYE This Year
Let’s be honest: New Year’s Eve will always have its fair share of sequins. After all, what would ringing in a new year—or in this case, a new decade—be without a touch of sparkle and shine? A new year always comes with next-level new beginnings. But for 2020, we plan to take that idea up a notch with our New Year’s outfits, too.

“Trust me—I’m all for wearing sparkles during the holiday season, but I think it’s more interesting to sparkle in moderation (i.e., stick to accessories). This dress is so fun but can be worn post-NYE, which is key.”
“I’m retiring all the clichés of NYE dressing—dark hues, sequins, metallics and the like—in favor of a look that feels fresh and that I could easily re-wear for other occasions. I’m reaching for this beautiful satin minidress in a punchy pink color and pairing it with velvet platform sandals that are luxurious but still comfy to walk in. If the weather decides not to cooperate and instead be freezing, I’ll throw on a pair of opaque black tights under my dress and a teddy coat on top.
“I plan on keeping it sleek and cool, but still festive this NYE. This will most likely consist of tailored black skinny trousers, a patterned button-down, a moto jacket as an alternative to a blazer, and a pair of metallic shoes keep it fun and playful.”
“I love this beautiful Stine Goya dress. While everyone else is in form-fitting metallic dresses for NYE, why not stand out from the crowd in puffed-sleeve and full-skirted dress? It’s such a fun silhouette and print, so it deserves to be seen for a big occasion. This dress calls for simple accessories that don’t detract from the main event. These affordable shoes by H&M definitely fit the bill.”
“Is it really NYE if you didn't wear anything sparkly? This top from Nué fits the bill, and I like that the fit is almost oversize despite its rather small size. A faux-leather skirt and knee-high boots will keep at least part of my body warm as I ring in the New Year.”
“For NYE this year, I want to keep it cool with a statement strapless top and jeans. To make sure the look doesn’t read too casual, I plan on dressing it up with a crystal-adorned heel and a fun bag.”
"I always try really hard not to give in and buy an entirely new outfit for occasions such as NYE, but I’d be lying if I said I don’t usually end up buying at least one thing when it gets close. This year, I’ve been really in a trouser phase, so I think I’ll style my current favorite pair with a fun top and boots (since NYC is freezing)."
“I just ordered this '80s-inspired minidress and can’t imagine anything more perfect outfit to ring in NYE. The oversize bow and crystal-trim details make it the ultimate piece to celebrate in. I’ll also be wearing these stunning firework earrings from Brinker & Eliza.”
