Everything Who What Wear Editors Saw, Wore, Did, and Ate During NYFW
Photo:
@_sierramayhew; @katcollings; @thatgirlyusraThose who attend fashion week know this to be all too true: The days are long, but the week still seems to fly by in a split second. Now that New York Fashion Week has come to an official close, what better way to dish on everything that happened than through the lens of our very own editors? Throughout the past seven days, we saw a stunning array of spring 2024 collections, but despite the clothing that was the week's primary objective, our team also indulged in a lot of incredible meals, took approximately 100 Uber, train, and bus rides, and, of course, wore plenty of trend-forward outfits throughout it all.
The week had us all up and down the isle of Manhattan and even over the river into Brooklyn and Roosevelt Island. We snapped plenty of pictures, texted plenty of group chats, and posted a veritable Instagram blitz on our feeds. Suffice it to say that our screen time has shot up to a scary degree. In other words, we did a lot. If you've ever wondered what a day in the life of a fashion editor attending NYFW is like, you're about to get a taste because I tasked each attendee on our fashion team with reporting on the highlights of each day, from their favorite runway look to the pop culture thing that everyone was talking about to what they ate, drank, and wore. Continue on to read team Who What Wear's fashion-week highlight reel.
Day 7

Courtesy of Carolina HerreraWHO: Kristen Nichols, associate director, special projects
Your favorite runway look of the day:
"I attended my first Carolina Herrera show yesterday, which was a real 'pinch me' moment, and I still can't stop thinking about Wes Gordon's beautiful designs. Sheer lace skirts were paired with knit polos. Bell-shaped minidresses and A-line gowns suggested the direction silhouettes will be taking for spring. Floral sweater sets were styled with hot pants. The piece I want in my closet immediately? The shiny champagne coat from look 38. I spotted similar satin evening coats at Tory Burch and Altuzarra, so I'm making an early prediction that the outerwear piece will be a key buy for spring 2024."
Photo:
@kristenmarienicholsThe trend you're already predicting:
"Big, voluminous skirts are one of the most talked-about trends to know for fall, and I expect to see the shape become even more dominant for spring 2024. Earlier in the week, we saw the silhouette on the runway at Brandon Maxwell and Altuzarra, and we saw it again today at Kallmeyer's beautiful presentation—the rising NYC-based brand is an editor favorite and one to know."
Standout moment from in between the shows:
"When a road closure put the traffic at a standstill and made it impossible to get through, I hopped on a Citi Bike in heels to get to my next show. That was a first!"
Photo:
@kristenmarienicholsThe best thing you ate and/or drank:
"After a week of meals on the run between shows, I sat down for dinner at Balthazar. Steak frites and a dirty martini were the perfect way to wrap up New York Fashion Week."
Photo:
@kristenmarienicholsWhat you wore:
"This tunic from Tory Burch is a Who What Wear editor favorite. Our editor Eliza Huber wore it earlier this week in a different colorway with the matching skirt, and I decided to style the top as a dress. We're seeing more hourglass shapes emerge for fall, and it's fair to say that I have been influenced. I paired it with Prada's floral-embellished pumps and a leather pochette from Savette."
Day 6
Photo:
@elizagracehuberWHO: Eliza Huber, editor
Favorite runway look of the day:
"It wasn't technically a runway look, but I've found myself falling hard and fast for lace pieces that really play into romance, and I found the perfect dress for the trend at Interior's showroom. It's an ivory lace dress with a princess-like V-waist. The brand does a great job of merging wearability with occasionwear, crafting dresses I want to wear to the office as much as my wedding."
The trend you're already predicting:
"Again, lace! Khaite and Saint Laurent have really gotten into this trend, but I see spring/summer 2024 as the season it reaches ubiquitous status. It perfectly combines angst and darkness with romance and elegance."
Photo:
@elizagracehuberThe best thing you ate and/or drank:
"After Wiederhoeft, I stopped at La Cabra in the EV for a cardamom bun and a caffeine drip (aka a cappuccino) with Anna and ChiChi from WWW. Fashion week can get so busy, so it's always appreciated when you have a brief hiatus from responsibilities to just hang out and eat a good pastry."
Standout moment from in between the shows:
"After my last presentation, I was supposed to get on a train and saw my bus at the last minute, so I hopped on. I ended up sitting there in the same spot by Penn Station for—I swear—45 minutes playing Royal Match on my phone and listening to Guts by Olivia Rodrigo before we finally went express up 10th and I eventually made it home."
Photo:
@elizagracehuberWhat you wore:
"I centered my outfit around a gold minidress from Khaite that I got at last year's sample sale. I'd wanted the navy version, which had the chicest photo alongside it from one retailer (I can't remember, but I think Moda) that featured it with black satin heels and a trench, so that's exactly how I did it. I also added my fondant-colored Bottega Veneta Sardine bag and gold Drop Earrings from the same brand as well as a Jenny Bird anklet and bracelet and my everyday Cartier Tank."
Day 5
Photo:
Courtesy of Tory BurchWHO: Anna LaPlaca, editor
Favorite runway look of the day:
"Everyone on our editorial team had Tory Burch day earmarked on their calendars, and for good reason. For the past few seasons, the designer has been the talk of the industry, with many whispering phrases like 'comeback,' 'renaissance,' and 'Tory era.' I've been investing a lot of dollars into the brand over the past year, so I was eager to see what Burch would offer us for spring 2024. To say I was delighted would be an understatement. I'm especially excited about the shoes that feature sculptural metal toe pieces that I will surely be adding to my cart once they become available in several months. The layered dresses—which are quickly becoming the designer's signature trick—also made my heart sing."
Photo:
@anna__laplacaThe trend you're already predicting:
"Sculptural hardware details! As I mentioned, at Tory Burch, flats were adorned with silver piercing accents that gave them more oomph than your standard pair. Meanwhile, both Brandon Maxwell and Khaite relied on metal-closure belts as outfit centerpieces for many looks, and Bevza's slim-profile shoulder bags featured chic hardware detailing. All in all, accessories are getting the sculpted treatment this spring.
"Do I have to pick just one? I also saw a lot of red throughout the week, especially in striking red-on-red ensembles at Proenza, Sandy Liang, Aknvas, and more that tell me the power color is only growing stronger next season. Many of the red looks were styled with bright white shoes like in the above image, which makes the intense color feel a lot more approachable."
Photo:
@anna__laplacaThe standout moment from in between the shows:
"I booked a ride ahead of time to my first presentation of the day at Mara Hoffman with a service called Blacklane, and I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. It gave me such peace of mind knowing that my car would arrive on time and give me a much-needed grace period to head downstairs. Fashion-week mornings can be chaotic, and as I was rushing to curl my last piece of hair and down an espresso shot, it was a huge time- and stress-saver to walk downstairs and right into a clean, comfortable car, one where I could control the temperate and rehydrate with one of the complementary water bottles."
Photo:
@anna__laplacaThe best thing you ate and/or drank:
"We had a very fun and very chic team happy hour at The Beekman's Bar Room, where we pretty much ordered one of everything, but I can't stop thinking about the onion dip. What can I say? I'm a sucker for low-brow dishes done in a high-brow way, and this one certainly delivered. We also celebrated associate editor Yusra's birthday, and she blew out her candles in one of their Chocolate Semifreddos, which were also divine. We probably overstayed our reservation, but hey, it's hard not to when the food is that good and the surroundings are that cozy."
Photo:
The Style StalkerWhat you wore:
"I had a long day, so an outfit change was in order. In the morning, I wore an outfit inspired by the Tory Burch S/S 23 collection—a lace maxi dress from Maison Essentiele worn as a skirt underneath a Dissh ribbed shell and over a Cultnaked miniskirt. I loved the creativity of transforming the lace dress that had been in my closet for months into something totally new like a skirt just by layering it.
"In the afternoon, I changed into this Pixie Market maxi-skirt set from Shopbop that earned droves of compliments despite it taking zero brain cells to put together. The real star of the show, though, is the Loewe Paseo Bag that I sourced via Rebag. I adore the chain straps on it that bring so much life to even a simple outfit like this. Bonus: It held so many of my random fashion-week essentials, from a portable charger to an extra pair of flats."
Day 4
Photo:
Courtesy of Sandy LiangWHO: Kat Collings, editor in chief
Favorite runway look of the day:
"I was enamored with this Sandy Liang skirt the second I saw it. The sheer panel is perfection, and when paired with a satin pink blazer, the whole thing is a delight."
Photo:
@katcollingsThe trend you're already predicting:
"Capris have been popping up everywhere on the runway, from Mirror Palais to Sandy Liang. Our editor Anna LaPlaca is a step ahead of the trends and was wearing a pair today! I love the retro Italian energy they give off."
The pop culture moment that had everyone talking:
"Had to be Jeffrey Bezos front row at Staud. One editor put a video of him to the Tiktok-famous sound 'Ariana, what are you doing here?' to great effect."
Photo:
@katcollingsThe best thing you ate and/or drank:
"Stopping by the Net-a-Porter cocktail at Raf's was lovely. Everyone was saying they really want to get a reservation for dinner there, as it's a newish fashion hot spot, so getting to try some of the cocktails and sweets was a fun tease. They even had an ice cream cart outside. Ideal, as it was sweltering!"
Photo:
@katcollingsThe standout moment in between the shows:
"Hurricane Lee hit NYC this morning, and trying to get from Ulla Johnson, who showed in Brooklyn, to Sandy Liang uptown was an epic journey. My Uber driver Stan was a champ, though, navigating all the rapidly forming small lakes and sprays of water from oncoming traffic.
"Another favorite moment was being sat next to our sister brand Marie Claire's new editor in chief, Nikki Ogunnaike, for Phillip Lim's return to the runway. We celebrated her appointment to the role with a dinner at Nine Orchard earlier this week, and I'm so excited to see what she does at Marie Claire."
Photo:
Jade Tillman Belmes/@flawlessmissWhat you wore:
"I wore a tried-and-tested monochromatic look I've been wearing in L.A. on repeat lately: Nanushka top, Urban Outfitters skirt, BY FAR heels (so comfortable!), Prada bag, and Loewe sunglasses. Everyone should buy this skirt! I have it in black, too, and it's fantastic quality for the price."
Day 3
Photo:
Courtesy of BevzaWHO: Jasmine Fox-Suliaman, editor
Favorite runway look of the day:
"I was particularly obsessed with Bevza's S/S 24 collection, as everything was so chic—from the baker hats to the angular handbags to the floral-adorned footwear. My favorite look, though, featured a simple white tank layered underneath a strapless sage dress with an off-white satin bust. It was simple yet stunning. Plus, the brand's newest bag shapes will surely become the next big thing."
Photo:
Courtesy of DauphinetteThe trend you're already predicting:
"I love statement accessories, and this season, there was no shortage of fun ones, including quirky handbags. While we've seen more eccentric handbags trending for a while now, I was particularly obsessed with the handbags spotted in spring/summer 2024 collections, including a bag with a spoon handle at Puppets and Puppets and the letter-box bag at Dauphinette."
Photo:
Courtesy of Sami Miro VintageThe pop culture moment that had everyone talking:
"The buzziest moment of the day was Sami Miro's debut at NYFW. The brand already had a lot of hype surrounding it, as Miro is a recent CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, but the show went viral on social media. What made the show so buzzy (besides all of the collection's cool pieces) was that Miro deconstructed a pair of jeans and transformed them into a skirt on the runway. With so much of the brand's ethos being about taking textile waste and transforming it into something new, the performative aspect of the show really highlighted the brand's mission in a way that was exciting and refreshing. Its debut will likely be cemented into the fashion cultural canon."
Photo:
@fashionwithjazzStandout moment from in between the shows:
"I love to squeeze appointments in between shows to maximize the day, so after Sami Miro's show and before LaPointe's show, I decided to swing by The Folklore Connect's NYFW showroom that's put on in partnership with Shopify to highlight rising Black designers from around the world, including Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Columbia, London, New York, Atlanta, and Toronto. What's so wonderful about this showroom is that The Folklore's founder, Amira Rasool, works to help each designer meet with fashion buyers at major retailers (e.g., Shopbop and Nordstrom) and helps advise the brands on scaling so that they succeed in the long run. I also love the curation of brands each season; my favorites featured this season included Edas, Téjahn Burnett, Oríré, and Israella Kobla."
Best thing you ate and/or drank:
"After running to seven different shows, I was hangry. Luckily, fashion friends from Marie Claire and The Cut were also hungry, so we decided to find an Italian spot to chow down at. After sadly not scoring a last-minute reservation at Rezdôra, we walked over to Isabelle's Osteria for a quick bite, which was delightful. The best dish of the evening was cacio e pepe—it was so creamy!"
Photo:
@fashionwithjazzWhat you wore:
"For fashion week this season, I was inspired by my colleague Anna LaPlaca to draw inspiration from fall/winter 2023 runway collections to inspire my outfits for the week. So for Saturday, I looked to Prada's and Off-White's runway collections for guidance. I re-created the look by opting for a silk button-down from 16Arlington styled with a Zara skirt adorned with eyelet hardware. I finished the look with some of my favorite accessories, including cat-eye sunglasses from Kimeze and a sculptural bag from Published By that garnered compliments all day."
Day 2
Photo:
Courtesy of Mirror PalaisWHO: Yusra Siddiqui, associate editor
Favorite runway look of the day:
"We're only at the beginning of NYFW, but I'm somehow already tired. But lack of sleep aside, I was ready to kick off my Friday with Mirror Palais, a show I was most looking forward to this season. On the Upper East Side, we were ushered into the building and up a grand set of stairs into a room that could've been a set from Bridgerton. The clothes were per usual, a lesson in perfect tailoring and vintage-inspired pretty dressing, something designer Marcelo Gaia has mastered. Models came out in intricate gowns, dramatic hats, and sheer ruffle dresses, and every piece had a touch of understated glamour."
Photo:
@thatgirlyusraThe trend you're already predicting:
"It's no secret that romantic and dainty pieces have dominated fashion, but Mirror Palais's and Sandy Liang's shows have proved that if it has a bow on it, people are going to want to buy it. I saw tons of bows styled in a variety of ways throughout the week, whether it was on people's ballet flats, in their hair, or even attached to their outfits."
Photo:
@thatgirlyusraThe pop culture moment that had everyone talking:
"While everyone was at fashion week, everyone could not stop talking about the U.S. Open. Everyone was ecstatic about Coco Gauff's win (the video of the moment had me extremely emotional), and on the other hand, some were not so ecstatic about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner getting cozy as they watched the game that week."
Photo:
@thatgirlyusraThe best thing you ate and/or drank:
"It's not often that you have a ton of time in between shows, so when a few of us editors saw that we had more than an hour before our next appointment, we decided to grab a meal at Planta, a plant-based Asian restaurant. Editors Anna and Jasmine sang high praises for it, but it wasn't until I tasted the fried broccoli and udon noodles that I realized that this was a meal I would be thinking about for a long time and would have to have again. I already have it noted to come back when I'm not running around amid NYFW because the food is worth appreciating."
The standout moment in between the shows:
"Last but not least, Anna and I stepped into Marina Moscone's showroom to preview the new collection. The words 'I love this' were said many times—just take a look at that ruffled strappy dress and you'll understand why. It was a great and chill way to end the day, admiring well-made pieces made by a wonderful designer who just gets it."
Photo:
@thatgirlyusraWhat you wore:
"I'm pretty terrible at documenting my outfits when things get busy, but a perk of working with people who appreciate a good outfit just as much as I do means they'll force you to take pictures. Despite the hot weather (who knew it would be this hot in September?), I went for a statement red moment, as seen on multiple runways throughout this fashion week. I've been eyeing these red wedges from Zara and finally made the plunge—thankfully so because they work with red tights so perfectly. Because the accessories are most important, I topped the look off with a pink Cloud Clutch from Mansur Gavriel and a chunky gold cuff from J.Crew. This was definitely my favorite outfit of the week."
Day 1
Photo:
Courtesy of BuciWHO: Sierra Mayhew, associate editor
Favorite runway look of the day:
"Buci took fashion editors into Prospect Park for an eerily still yet beautiful display of its S/S 24 collection. It was such a dream venue, and the beauty of the park was certainly reflected in the designs that we saw walk down the runway. Lately, a lot of fashion brands have been making a nod toward what resembles the barely-there gowns adorning Greek statues. The draping, asymmetry, and every intricate detail in between make me feel like this matching set belongs to a modern-day goddess. I'd like to copy and paste it onto my body ASAP."
The trend you're already seeing everywhere:
"I've never seen the fashion industry put comfort first more than they are right now. From flat shoes to comfortable maxi skirts and jersey materials flaunted by the show's attendees to equally functional pieces worn on models at shows and presentations, it seems like we're prioritizing comfort more than ever before in this post-pandemic world. This is a movement that I'm not mad about."
Photo:
@_sierramayhewThe pop culture moment that had everyone talking:
"Pretty much everyone was buzzing about the star-studded event hosted by Victoria's Secret last night. From Gigi Hadid to Naomi Campbell, it seems like every star found their way to this party and wore archival Victoria's Secret looks. It made me want to take a peek through the brand's archives and wear something for a night out. One of the moments that really made my jaw drop was Doja Cat's complaints about her outfit for the evening. She took to her Instagram Stories and made a statement that her dress was far too see-through, stirring up a debate on whether or not her complaints were valid. My personal opinion is still up in the air."
The best thing you ate and/or drank:
"I attended a lunch hosted by the latest cool-girl fashion app called By Rotation at a cute little restaurant in the West Village that I had never been to. It's called Gab's, and as soon as the appetizers were set on the table, I knew we were going to have a good meal. Olives, sourdough bread, and creamy stracciatella—I was sold in an instant. Finding out that it's a woman-owned restaurant was the cherry on top. By Rotation had us do a quick meditation after shopping for some of the luxury rental items that the app offers. That moment of peace really grounded me after such a hectic morning and what felt like an oncoming heatstroke that had me buzzing."
Photo:
@_sierramayhewStandout moment from in between the shows:
"We're currently experiencing a heat wave in NYC, of course, just in time for New York Fashion Week, and the girls were dripping. There wasn't a dry face in the front row, and while that's usually a nod to a tear-jerking fashion show, in this case, it was an amount of sweat that would make you think we just played Coco Gauff in three rounds of tennis. I have had to take showers in between shows because of how dang hot it is outside. Does anyone know where I can get a portable AC unit? The tiny Amazon fans just aren't doing it for me."
Photo:
@_sierramayhewWhat you wore:
"This plaid midi skirt felt way too fashionable to wear to anything other than fashion week. This time of year always feels like back to school for me, so I'm pulling out all of the preppy stops and adding an edge to what might be considered a schoolgirl skirt that was so fun. As soon as I saw this top on Paige's site, I just knew I had to have it. It's such an easy basic that can make any outfit you wear feel on-trend. Accessories have been a bit of an in-the-moment thing for me lately, so I threw on this choker on my way out the door, and it magically seemed to pull my whole look together."
