Call me biased, but I'll stand by the assertion that New York City is home to some of the most stylish people in the world. Sure, we might all be obsessed with Parisian women or wearing Copenhagen's coolest brands, but still, New York is where the magic happens. That's never more apparent than during fashion week when the streets of every borough are filled with people donning the season's biggest trends. Don't get me wrong, trends come from everywhere, but the true test of whether they'll make it past the runways is whether or not New Yorkers adopt them.

Like it or not, this city is always ahead of the curb in everything. But you don't have to look too far for evidence of this fact, as I've done the heavy lifting for you by scouring hundreds of street-style images to find the best street-style looks from New York Fashion Week S/S 24. Additionally, I cross-referenced all the looks with F/W 23 runway collections to create a list of the 9 biggest fall trends being worn by New Yorkers right now and shopped each of them out. Not only have these trends "made it" in Manhattan, but I'm betting they'll be coming to your zip code soon.

1. Paint The Town Red

Not all street style trends are easy to spot, especially in the bustling streets of New York City. But this season, as the fashion set traversed through the boroughs, one trend painted the town red (quite literally). We first saw crimson-hued pieces take over the F/W 23 collections of Ferragamo, Bottega Veneta, and David Koma in the form of suits, outerwear, and accessories. But the verdict was still in deliberation about how wearable this vibrant hue was... until now. Like clockwork, the style set showed us how to take one of the boldest color trends of the season and make it wearable. Keep scrolling to see how this hue was styled this season...

Shop the trend:

Throw this over your favorite t-shirt, and you've got the perfect fall look.

Pair with a blazer for the perfect trendy-forward look that you can wear to the office (or anywhere for that matter).

2. Silver Resurgance

Jewelry trends can be a bit harder to catch in the shuffle of NYFW. However, upon scrolling through hundreds of street-style images, the prevalence of one particular trend was unavoidable: silver jewelry. We first saw this metal make a resurgence in recent F/W 23 collections, and it seems street style wasn't immune to this takeover. Across the board, we saw the NYC crowd donning everything from silver chains to chunky cuffs to sculptural earrings, proving once and for all that this trend is here to stay. Keep scrolling to see how silver jewelry was styled this season...

Style notes: Add a touch of modernity to your go-to suit this fall by styling it with a pair of sculptural silver earrings.

Style notes: Make a minimal dress feel more luxurious this fall by pairing it with stacked silver bangles and matching earrings.

Style notes: Lean into the trend fully by pairing silver jewelry with other silver items like shoes, a bag, and even matching separates.

Shop the trend:

Sculptural silver bangles were a fan favorite this season.

It doesn't get chicier than a pair of silver hoops.

Pro tip: Layer on multiple silver chains to fully embrace the trend.

3. Sheer Separates

There's a commonly held belief that in order to win in a game, you have to be willing to take some risks—while I don't know much about sports, I will say that's applicable to fashion. Some of the best trends happen to be the most risqué; they're the ones that leave you thinking: "That's cute, but it's impossible to wear." The ultra-sheer separates we've seen bubble up in the S/S 23 and F/W 23 collections could fall within that categorization.  Yet, we saw the New York City-style set put some skin in the game (sorry for the pun) by embracing this trend this season. Keep scrolling to see how sheer separates were styled at NYFW...

Style notes: Don't think you can pull off wearing a sheer skirt? Think again. Try styling it with a longer peplum or tunic top (like above) or layering another mini skirt underneath it.

Style notes: Possibly, the easiest way to embrace this trend is by opting for a shirt made from an opaque material. It doesn't matter whether it's a button-down, t-shirt, or blouse; you want to choose a silhouette that you can style with other items in your closet easily.

Style notes: If you don't want to have to play with layering to make a sheer item more comfortable, try opting for an item with built-in layering already (e.g., the pant look above).

Shop the trend:

Layer this over a pretty bra top or under a blazer to add visual intrigue to all your fall outfits.

You can style this over a black mini skirt if you want to embrace the sheer-look without showing too much skin.

4. Furry Friends

When it comes to street style, it can sometimes feel like the looks fall into one of two camps: the "peacocks," which are the over-the-top outfits that are clearly worn to grab attention or the sort of "boring" minimal looks that aren't giving. But what if I told you there was one textile trend that managed to meld the best of both worlds? Yes, it really exists, and it comes in the form of fur accessories. Spotted on F/W 23 runways, faux fur, shearling, and all things fuzzy managed to not only take over outerwear but bags, shoes, and other accessories, too. But what makes this trend so fall-forward (besides its wide prevalence) is how easily it can be incorporated into anyone's closets. Keep scrolling to see how both minimalists and maximalists styled this trend...

Style notes: For a more maximalist take on styling fur accessories, try taking a colorful furry bag and pairing it with suiting seperates in a contrasting hue.

Style notes: No matter your sartorial leanings, opting for a pair of fuzzy shoes is the perfect way to embrace this trend. As furry shoes can be styled with contrasting separates (like above) or with jeans and a sweater.

Style notes: For a more minimalist take on this trend, opt for an all-black (or neutral) look paired with a colorful furry handbag.

let's just say you won't have cold feet about this trend if you wear these heels.

5. Tights Takeover

One of the best things about Fashion Week is being able to spot new styling trends in street style imagery, as it can provide ample inspiration for fall. And while this season was filled with so many noteworthy ideas, I'd be remiss if we didn't give an honorable shoutout to one trend: tights. As much as this underpins a staple, recent F/W 23 collections have given this underrated undergarment a whole new life. That new lease on life was most visible in how so many fashion people took to styling hosiery this season. Keep scrolling to see how this trend was worn to New York Fashion week...

Style notes: Don't be afraid to take more polished pieces (e.g., a wool coat or turtleneck dress) and give them a bit of edge by pairing them with fishnet tights.

Style notes: Add a little visual intrigue to your go-to neutral dress by styling colorful tights underneath with a pair of matching shoes.

Style notes: Make a risqué sheer skirt (or even mini) more comfortable by styling a pair of colorful tights underneath.

6.Relaxed Denim

Season after season, there are always a few new noteworthy denim trends, but the best indication of their longevity is how long New Yorkers wear them. And it seems that the style that's still gripped the girlies is relaxed denim. Across the board, we saw more relaxed silhouttes in the form of ultra-wide-leg jeans, low-rise waist-lines, and baggier silhouettes overall dominate in street style imagery. The style's prevalence was proof that skinny jeans are long gone (at least for now). Keep scrolling to see the various ways this trend was worn this season...

Style notes: You don't have to wear low-rise or wide-leg jeans in order to tap-into the relaxed denim trend. If it's still a bit hot, try pairing baggy jean shorts with a blazer, socks, and heels for a cool take on this trend.

Cuffed denim was also a note-worthy trend among the style set this season.

7. A-Typical Trenches

Over the past few seasons, we've seen classic outerwear staples (e.g., the moto jacket or bomber jacket) be reinvented in exciting ways by designers, so it was only a matter of time before trenches came into the mix. With F/W 23 collections, there was no shortage of A-typical trench coats as they came in everything from punchy prints to luxurious leathers and cool colorways. While it may have been expected that trench coats would be the next outerwear style to get a modern twist, what still was surprising (at least to me) was how quickly the trend caught on.  Clearly, the New York style set does not play when it comes to outerwear, as there were so many street-style looks this season featuring statement trench coats. Need proof? Keep scrolling to see how this trend was styled this season...

Style notes: Give your all-black looks a more fashion-forward spin by adding a printed trench coat to your look. Bonus points if it's in a trending print (like the thick-striped coat above).

Style notes: When in doubt, the simplest separates can feel fresher than even with the addition of a leather trench coat.

Style notes: When shopping for this trend, don't be afraid to opt for an iteration made from unexpected materials or mixed media as it will make it all the more special.

Mark my words, this leather trench will become your wardobe's unsung hero.

8. Mary Janes

Let's be real: Navigating through New York City isn't easy, especially in heels. And as much as the style crowd has a built-in tolerance to the pain of dragging their feet through fashion week in a pair of God-awful pumps, this season, we saw a wider embrace of a much more comfortable alternative: Mary Janes. No matter if this trend's popularity can be attributed to its prevalence in '23 collections or the general fatigue of show-goers this season, whatever the case, it's safe to say this shoe style was everywhere. Keep scrolling to see for yourself how prevalent this trend was among the street-style crowd...

Style notes: Try pairing this polished footwear with more "edgier" items like a plaid pleated mini skirt and an oversized button-down. It's the perfect way to make this footwear feel more New York-City centric rather than French-inspired.

Style notes: Who said you have to wear heels with a suit? Take your beloved waistcoat and trousers and pair them with Mary Janes for the perfect work-ready look.

Style notes: The best part about this shoe trend? It can make your staples feel more polished—case in point: the look above. A pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and blazer feel way more elegant with the simple addition of Mary Jane flats.

Shop the trend:

These flats look so much more expensive than their pricetag.

For the girlies that just can't get behind flats, these are a great way to adopt the trend without loosing inches.

You can shop these in five other colorways, including navy and white.

9. It's Giving Low-Key Luxury

Every fashion week, we're reminded that the New York crowd knows how to dress—it's evident through the street style. But if you're still a bit dubious about how this city has the world beat, then let me highlight one last "trend" that dominated this season: low-key luxury. For the record, minimalism isn't really a trend; it's been around since the '90s. But in recent months, we've seen wide adoption of a more laid-back approach to dressing this season. Partly, that shift can be attributed to wider cultural conversations around being a more thoughtful shopper and popular fashion aesthetics like "old money", but my hunch is it's more than that.

New Yorkers have always known that great style can't be bought; it's curated. Yes, you can buy into every trend, but truly stylish people pick items they know will look good long past when they were photographed. It's why we saw so many showgoers this season donning minimal staples like tube tops, slip skirts, button-downs, pencil skirts, and suits—because they're timeless. It's the wide adoption of all things low-key this season that reminds us New Yorkers always know how to take even the most "boring" wardrobe items and transform them into a moment. Keep scrolling to see how low-key luxury was styled this season...
