Celebrities Under 5'4" Love These Petite-Friendly Trends

If you ask us, the biggest asset to a petite woman’s closet is a trusty tailor. But after that, there shouldn’t be too many hard-and-fast rules as to what anyone 5’4” and under can wear. The eight celebrities ahead certainly don’t abide by any.

We looked to them—some of our favorite and the most high-profile petite style stars—to figure out which trends they love and don’t shy away from in spite of their smaller statures. What we found is that some, like the Olsen twins and Kourtney Kardashian, love a long silhouette that might understandably intimidate anyone who’s petite. (Here’s where that tailor comes in handy.) While others, such as Mindy Kaling and Emma Roberts, favor pieces that covertly help elongate their shapes.

No matter which approach you relate to more, peruse all eight trends below that come with a celebrity stamp of approval and no height requirements.

The petite trend: Matching sets

Richie has always proved that she’s a fan of prints, so this bold pairing feels right at home for her. The peek of midriff also helps to break up the pattern a bit so it doesn’t overwhelm her frame.

The petite trend: Kitten heels

Just because you fall under 5’5” doesn’t mean you need shoes that carry you to the 6’ mark. Opt for a tiny lift à la Kravitz.

The petite trend: Belted jumpsuit

One-piece looks can be tricky for shorter people (Where does my torso end? Where do my hips begin?), but this cinched style perfects the fit and defines your proportions.

Mary-Kate Olsen, 5'2" and Ashley Olsen, 5'1"

The petite trend: Maxi skirts

The Olsen sisters are notoriously petite ladies who love a lot of fabric. It might be tricky to find a maxi style off the rack that doesn’t drag on the floor, but it’s worth a call to a tailor to make a couple of small adjustments and achieve this sleek, minimalist aesthetic.

Mindy Kaling, 5'4"

The petite trend: Naked shoes

Kaling, who falls right on the cusp of petite at 5’4”, knows the naked shoe trick for ladies who like to look taller: Find a style that complements your skin tone (the options below offer multiple varieties depending on your personal shade of “naked”) and you’ll instantly look statuesque. This works for heels or flats, but it’s ideal if the toe shape is somewhat pointed.

Yara Shahidi, 5'3"

The petite trend: Structured jackets

If you’re petite and want a silhouette with a bit of command, look for tailored pieces with a strong shoulder. Shahidi’s outfit above makes her look like the total boss that she is.

Demi Lovato, 5'3"

The petite trend: High slits

If you don’t want to fully commit to a long hemline, we love this Lovato-approved trend that gets the best of both worlds: a longer length and a little leg.

Emma Roberts, 5'2"

The petite trend: Skinny, cropped jeans

It’s a classic and for good reason. Roberts’s cropped skinnies offer a denim shape that doesn’t overpower her size and cuts off right at the ankle so that it can accommodate flats or heels without shortening the appearance of her legs.
