Queen Elizabeth II in 2019

Queen Elizabeth II is being laid to rest today as the world watches on, and the moving images from the day are likely to be ingrained in our memories for years to come. It was a somber occasion but also a celebration of the beloved queen's life and legacy. Queen Elizabeth II served 70 years on the throne, so for many of us, she's the only head of the British monarchy we've known. Needless to say, today, September 19, 2022, will go down in history as one of the United Kingdom's most significant days.

This morning's state funeral service began with a procession from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey, where the queen was also married and coronated. The procession will continue to Windsor Castle, where the queen will be laid to rest at St. George's Chapel alongside her late husband, Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The state funeral was attended by the royal family, numerous world leaders (including President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden), and royalty from around the world. But of course, many eyes were on King Charles III, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

Below, we've gathered some of the most important and moving images from the day.
