The Ankle Boot Trend Everyone Is Talking About in Paris Right Now

Welcome to Runway Matters, where we're delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the F/W 18 shows.

When you think of the Saint Laurent woman, odds are you envision someone full of personality and not afraid to wear pieces with high hemlines. Anthony Vaccarello continued that vision in his fall collection for the French fashion house. The designer presented a collection full of bold (mainly black) looks, in itty-bitty silhouettes, major footwear moments, and, of course, a chunk of incredibly glamorous sparkly numbers.

From red carpet moments to key street style looks, we're already predicting which celebrity will be the first to wear the key trends from the latest Saint Laurent collection. (Rihanna, our eyes are on you!)

The Power Boots

When it comes to footwear, Vaccarello sent sky-high platform ankle boots down the runway paired with micro silhouettes. We can already picture celebrities like Hailey Baldwin and Kaia Gerber supporting the statement boot trend.

Blackout

The first 58 looks to walk down the runway were head-to-toe black ensembles. Each silhouette defines the Saint Laurent woman and man with pristine detail and an edgy-glam vibe. From exaggerated shoulders to mini shorts in leather and velvet materials that lend a subtle nod to the athleisure trend, every look embodied a sleek and powerful feel.

A Mini Moment

It wouldn't be a proper Saint Laurent show without red carpet–ready minidresses. The brand is known for signature miro flocks, and this season, Vaccarello brought a bright bohemian vibe through fresh florals and dashes of sparkles and sequins to the collection.

Loads of Leather

From platform leather boots and statement accessories like belts and wide-brim hats to little leather trouser shorts and the sleekest cropped pants, no one does a leather piece like Vaccarello. For fall, the designer focused on leather separates like tailored pants and a selection of leather jackets.
