Last week, Donatella Versace declared fur is over, and now the city of San Francisco concurs. Time reports that the city's Board of Supervisors has just voted to ban the sale of fur. The legislation will go into effect on January 1, 2019.

According to Time, San Francisco is now the largest U.S. city to ban fur sales—Berkeley and West Hollywood have also passed similar legislation. The L.A. Times tapped the supervisor who pushed the ban, Katy Tang, to offer her take on the subject. "I hope that it inspires other cities and the country to take action. Certainly we need better federal regulations on fur farming," Tang told the newspaper. "There's no humane way to raise an animal to peel its skin off."

Luckily, there are plenty of brands to choose from if you want the faux-fur look. Stella McCartney, for instance, has long been a champion of cruelty-free designs and offers chic faux fur and tons of faux leather options. Read on to shop more of our favorite pieces.
