5 Trends I'm Buying Now and Wearing Well Into the Fall
Photo:
@anna__laplacaAs much as it is my job to research and report on current trends, I'm much pickier when it comes to the silhouettes I'll personally add to my own closet. As a fashion editor, I'm constantly looking out for what's going to be trending in several months' time, so my shopping habits are often ahead of the current season. Right now, I'm fully absorbed in building out my fall wardrobe despite that this hot and humid weather seems to be sticking around for a while. So to satisfy both seasons and ensure I'm shopping with longevity in mind, I've landed on five current trends that work both summer and fall.
Personally, I find a lot of satisfaction in building a wardrobe of pieces I can style year-round, and the five trendier staples below are doing just that. After all, there's no worse feeling than making a clothing purchase only to be able to wear it once before the seasons inevitably change (and, not to mention, who has the space to store four separate wardrobes?).
From tailored vests to delicate slip dresses, continue on to see how I'm wearing five summer-to-fall trends now and how I plan to continue styling them well into the next season.
1. Tailored Vests

@anna__laplacaTailored vests have been trending all year long, but I'm leaning into them now more than ever. While it's still warm out, I'm wearing mine with a white tank and sneakers for a casual and effortless feel.

@stephaniebroekThe versatility of a vest-and-trousers set is simply unmatched. When the sleeveless silhouette becomes less practical this fall, I love the idea of wearing it underneath an oversize coat or leather jacket so the vest acts as a layering top.
2. Column Skirts
Photo:
@anna__laplacaShoutout to the wave of '90s minimalist looks that are trending again because they've introduced me to some of my new favorite staples, like sleek column skirts. I've been wearing them all summer with barely there tops and sandals as an elevated answer to my former uniform of denim shorts and tanks.

@georgia_3.0Luckily, column skirts lend themselves just as well to fall and winter wardrobes and I plan on utilizing them like this, swapping boots for sandals and button-downs for tanks.
3. Slip Dresses

@anna__laplacaThe fall runways were flooded with simple ankle-grazing slip dresses from Jil Sander to Bottega Veneta, proving that the humble basic is having its moment. While I'm putting most fall trends on the back burner until the weather cools, slip dresses are the perfect next-season piece to start wearing now with little else.

Bottega VenetaCome fall, I want to try wearing my dresses with a sweater tied around the waist like this or even layered over the dress to transform it into a skirt. I love when trends are ultra-practical.
4. Puddle Pants

@anna__laplacaPuddle pants have started popping up on the celebrity set, and I have to say, I'm a huge fan of the relaxed look myself. Here, I wore my baggy trousers with a scarf top and kitten heels for an unexpected twist on dinner attire.

@tylynnnguyenPairing the suiting trousers with tailored staples like a trench coat makes them feel appropriate for fall. I'll be taking notes from this simple but repeatable look in a few months' time.
5. Relaxed Denim

@anna__laplacaI usually skip jeans in the summer, but one style I've kept in rotation is my relaxed-fit pairs. I can't say enough good things about the Levi Dad Jeans I'm wearing here.

@taniceelizabethMentally, I'm already re-creating this perfect ensemble that features denim and a few more of-the-moment fall pieces like ballet flats and a structured blazer.
