Here's What to Wear When You're Going Kayaking
During the summer, one of the best (and simplest) ways to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city (and the office) is to pack up and head out on a camping trip with your closest friends, and yes, glamping does count. While you're there, why not plan on some outdoor sports like kayaking? Of course, even if you already know how to pack for a chic weekend in the woods, what to wear kayaking is a whole new train of thought.
So we asked outdoor enthusiast Brooke Murray for her insight on appropriate pieces to pack for your kayaking excursion and the moments following. "When I head out for a day on the water, I like to find a bikini that lets me move comfortably and athletically and lightweight, quick-dry layers," she says. "Sun protection from the reflective water is also a great reason to rock a good pair of sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat."
Now shop these key items and more kayaking essentials Murray suggests for your moments on (and off) the water.
Sporty Bikini
Murray says to choose a supportive bikini that allows for flexibility and athleticism while still looking stylish enough for the BBQ on the beach.
This bikini will get you through the roughest of waters.
Top and Banded Bottom ($112) available in sizes 1X to 3X.
We love this color combination.
Top and Strappy Hipster Bikini Bottom ($20) available in sizes XS to XL.
Sunglasses
A pair of sunglasses will keep you chic and shaded all day long.
Towel
"During a long day at the beach, your towel will also function as a blanket on the beach and a shawl when the sun goes down. You may as well bring something fun and colorful to enjoy," she says.
Straw Hat
With the reflection from the water and the sun beating down, you'll want a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and neck.
Cover-Up
A loose-fitting lightweight cover-up will give you the perfect look post-kayaking.
A lightweight cover-up will be perfect to and from the waters.
Available in sizes 12 to 24.
We could always use a chic cover-up.
Available in sizes XS to L.
Tank Top
According to Murray, loose-fitting, lightweight layers will help you easily transition from the water to a BBQ on the beach or a hike along the shore.
Wear this for all your workouts.
Available in sizes 1X to 3X.
Flowy Shorts
Lightweight shorts will not only dry easily if they get a little wet, but they'll be so comfortable before and after you go kayaking.
We love this subtle ruffle detail.
Available in sizes 34 to 42.
Sandals
Murray says, "Look for sturdy footwear that can get wet, offers support when navigating over roots and rocks, and will dry quickly after reaching shore."
Yes, Birkenstocks are still chic.
Available in sizes 36 to 41.
Now, you're all set for kayaking or any other activities you plan to do on your trip!
