There are a lot of things to resent about going through the TSA line at the airport. Yes, taking liquids and laptops out of your bag is a pain, but the most stressful and unhygienic step is having to take off your shoes and walk around barefoot. But as solution-oriented people, we're not here to complain. To find out about the best shoes for travel days, we turned to chic celebrity stylist Caley Rinker.

Since you'll need to wear something comfortable but chic so that you can reach your destination in style, finding the best travel shoes is somewhat of an art form. Read through Rinker's expert advice below and shop the best shoes for travel days—whether you'll be traveling by plane, train, automobile, or all three.

Sneakers

The holy grail of travel shoes is a pair of chic and comfortable sneakers. "I usually opt for a sneaker when traveling—especially for the plane—so you have socks on in case you have to take your shoes off. It's always a good idea to have for those last-minute adventures," says Rinker. "You really can't go wrong with a great sneaker. Pair them with jeans and a T-shirt or a cute day dress, and you're set to go out and explore all day," she says. Sneakers are so versatile that you don't even need to change when you get to your destination.

Flat Mules

Flat mules are easily some of the best shoes to add to your wardrobe, travel days or not. As Rinker explains, they're "very versatile and on trend," which is all you can ask of in a pair of shoes. They "go with everything, and you can easily go day to night with them," according to Rinker. Plus, they're comfortable and easy to slip in and out of while going through TSA.

Sandal Slides

If you like the slip-on style of flat mules but are headed to a beach and need something with an open toe, then here's your pick. Slip-on sandals mean you'll be "sticking to something that's comfortable, easy, and breathable so you don't get blisters," says Rinker. However, she advises to "be sure to wear them a few times to break them in a little before a long travel day."

Low Heels

"I refuse to wear a high heel when traveling! There is just no need and it seems silly and forced," Rinker tells us. However, shoes with a low block heel or kitten heel (that are also broken in and comfortable) can be acceptable for travel. "Since I find it hard to wear high heels these days, kitten heels are a great option when you feel like dressing up a little but still want to be comfortable," she says.

Ankle Boots

If you're traveling during the cooler months, chances are you'll want to wear some closed-toe shoes. Booties are a great option because they're easy to slip in and out of. You'll also free up some room in your suitcase by wearing these while traveling since boots tend to be bulkier and take up more space.

Available in sizes 4.5 to 12.

Classic Flats

Last but not least, consider wearing a pair of flats. When you don't want to wear slides but you want an easy and flexible option, flats will be your best friend. You can easily fold them up in your carry-on if you want to change into something more formal when you arrive, too.

And now, plan the rest of your travel outfit with editor-approved looks in mind.
